“Civic Life & Faith”,

Church Council is going to study a draft of our ELCA Social Statement on “Civic Life & Faith”, a teaching document that seeks to help congregations and members engage faithfully and thoughtfully in our democracy. A “social statement” in our ELCA is put together by a well-rounded task force, working over several years; and then a ‘draft’ statement is distributed for congregations to study and provide feedback on. And then, after revisions are made, such a statement would have to be adopted by 2/3 vote at our next ELCA Churchwide Assembly (2025). We’ll keep you posted on opportunities to participate in the conversation. (And you can Google “ELCA Social Statements” to easily find any of the 13 current topics, and this one that is being formulated.)
