Sunday School – Week 3 – Swim, Johah, Swim!

Week 3 Swim, Jonah, Swim!

Read the story of Jonah (the Old Testament book of Jonah) and talk about why it is important to obey and follow God.

For the younger kids, try this link to watch a video about Heroes of the Bible -Jonah  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOSadLyqshg

If you have a pool, play tag in the pool.  If no pool, play tag on land.  The person who is IT is the big fish and tries to tag someone else.

Why is it important?

  • Because Jonah does not listen to God and avoids Nineveh, God tortures him, using the wicked storm and then the belly of the whale. After Jonah praises God and does what he is told, he questions God’s action of sparing the people of Nineveh.
  • A person cannot run away from God’s plans.
  • The lessonfor Jonah was to teach him to be less self-centered and focus more on the common good.

Older kids- focus on Chapter 4 of Jonah

  • Why is Jonah so angry?
  • What was God teaching Jonah?
