Pastor's Message
Dear Witnesses to our Living Lord:

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! (And as a dear late seminary professor/poet used to say: "And it had better be true!")

I usually try to offer a thoughtful reflection in this paragraph. This time around, let me make you three offers-one of which I hope will be too good to refuse!

Offer #1 Bible for Dummies is one of those actual 'yellow' 'for dummies' books, that gives some good insights into the books of the Bible, and what they're about. I would love to start a group in this either Monday April 15 or Thursday April 18...maybe 6:30-7:30 pm? We could get about 4 weeks in this spring, and then pick it up again in the fall. This would be a great entry point for young adults, new members, and any of your friends or acquaintances who might like to start digging into this most important and most challenging of books! Let me know if you're interested! You could join by Zoom as well as in-person.

Offer #2 We've just come through the season of Lent, facing our own mortality, and Jesus' death on the cross. We're prepared to live in the light and hope of Christ's resurrection! Would you be ready to talk about your end-of-life plans? Questions? Hopes? Fears? Ideas for your funeral? Thoughts on your estate? At my own stage of life I'm realizing how much there is to think about and how easy it is to put off these thoughts or conversations. One of our local funeral directors could join us for an information session. A colleague of mine and his church created a great video series as well. We could offer a group session, or I could meet with you individually! To those of you who have been praying and thinking about these things, let me say "thank you" on behalf of your loved ones (and your pastor!)

Offer #3 It's time to begin a Grief Support Group here, for ourselves and for the wider community. I know that some of our neighboring churches would be interested too. Let me just invite you who might be interested to gather on Monday April 8 at 6:30. A core group of us could decide how often to meet, and what kind of resources to use.

Remember the promise of our risen Lord "I am with you always to the end of the age!"

1 Samuel 17 = David and Goliath Bible Background: 1 & 2 Samuel are really 1 book! Size made it necessary to be in 2 parts. 1 Samuel is about the rise of the monarchy in Israel, with the first King, Saul; and then David. David is shown to be a brave, faithful, young hero! He is sure that

Joshua 6 = Battle of Jericho Bible Background: The Book of Joshua emphasizes: a) Taking possession of the Promised Land, b) Joshua as Moses’ legitimate successor, and c) The importance of complete obedience to Yahweh. Some of us learned as little kids: “Joshua fought the battle of

Exodus 20 = God Gives the Ten Commandments Bible Background: The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for 400 years. God brought them out of Egypt, and on their way to their own land, they need to learn how to live as God’s people. Think of the Commandments not mainly as a list of

Exodus 14 = Crossing the Sea Bible Background: After an epic show of force between Yahweh and Pharaoh (the 10 plagues), Pharaoh finally does send the Israelites out of Egypt, only to change his mind and send his army to bring his slave laborers back. The crossing of the Red or Reed Sea happens
